Mid Wales has one of the most unspoiled landscapes in Great Britain, in the form of the Cambrian Mountains. The area has a number of market towns and is also the source of two of the nation’s major rivers – The Severn and the Wye Rivers. There are also two national parks located in the Mid Wales region; Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons National Parks. In the Mid Wales border area with England are the Welsh Marches, which are famed for their historic castles, gardens and country houses. It is here that you will find the market town of Welshpool.

Historic Market Town of Welshpool

Adorned with Georgian architecture which is prevalent on the meandering high street, Welshpool is one of Powys’s largest towns. The ancestral home of the Earl of Powys is situated here at Powis Castle, which is a splendid historic property. The castle is not completely accessible for wheelchair users and there is a virtual tour for parts of the visit, however there is a step free footpath around the gardens and an accessible minibus to take wheelchair users to the gardens and the museum.

Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway is another local attraction, with carriages that have wheelchair access for up to six wheelchair users. Utilising unique Hungarian and Austrian coaches, the train begins its journey in Welshpool, making a memorable journey through the Welsh Countryside, climbing the famed Golfa Bank.

Blackbird Cottage

Ann Reed is the owner of a group of three wheelchair accessible cottages based in the beautiful countryside of Wales. Situated just 10 miles from Welshpool and 3 miles from the village of Llanfair Caereinion, there is no more idyllic location to escape from it all.

Open since 2001, Blackbird Cottage has three bedrooms, kitchen, living room and bathroom with a roll in shower and a separate WC. The cottages are fully furnished, and the kitchen has all the essentials needed for a self-catering holiday.

Hoists are available for hire if required and dogs are welcome to visit too. There is ample parking available at each cottage and picnic tables are available for outside dining if desired.

An added advantage of the cottages is the availability of WiFi, which would prove beneficial as there is not mobile phone signal in this part of the world. Although there is a telephone available which is coin operated.

There are no hidden costs in the booking as the price includes gas and electricity, use of all the equipment and linen is already included.
