A great location, fantastic staff, lovely restaurants, and a wonderful vibe. However, this is not an ideal place for wheelchair users. Getting around the hotel and outer grounds is pretty straight forward with ramps and smooth footpaths. The room is accessible enough to wheel into, but the toilet is not accessible by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, none of the hotel toilets are of an accessible quality without a lot of messing about and risk. The pool is lovely, but there are no transfer seats to make getting in and out easy.
I am fairly lucky in that I don’t need much adaptations when travelling. One thing that is really important though is that I need a toilet with space on one side (either side, it doesn’t matter) so that I can transfer from my wheelchair. Despite being assured that this was an ‘accessible’ hotel when booking I was pretty cross to discover that there wasn’t a single toilet that I could easily use.
Without going into too much gruesome detail, I eventually found a way to overcome the problem.
Our room was a ‘swim up’ room, with a pool just outside. You can see from the photos that the ramp leading from our room was crumbling and not very safe.
The main pool at the hotel was easy enough for me to get in and out. Access around the hotel was fairly easy, and there were lifts and slopes where necessary.
The restaurants were all accessible. Credit to the wonderful staff who, despite the issues, made this holiday such a memorable one.
