Southwaite Green is in an area of peace and tranquillity in the Vale of Lorton, with Cockermouth and Lorton both 2 miles away, Keswick 9 miles to the east. Within a short drive are the quieter western lakes Crummock, Loweswater, Buttermere and Ennerdale, winner of Britain's Best View. There are ample walking and cycling opportunities from the door and a wealth of shops and restaurants can be found in both Cockermouth and Keswick.
The five star cottages sit on Paddle Beck giving a peaceful ambience together with 10 acres of grounds including woodland planted in 2005, wildlife meadow, pond and arboretum, planted 2007. There is an abundance of wildlife including brown hare, roe deer, foxes, red squirrels, badgers, a barn owl and the kingfisher that visits the beck.
Southwaite Green is a development of four holiday cottages that were constructed in 2007 by the owner, who lives on site, to an extremely high standard, to demonstrate that sustainability and luxury can be combined. The cottages incorporate local timber and stone used by local craftsmen to retain the traditional character and wherever possible original timbers from the barns have been re used. The cottages have been painstakingly developed using green design and technologies, with ground and air source heat pumps to power the under floor heating beneath the slate and oak floors.
All of our cottages have a five star grading from Visit Britain and Southwaite Green is pet friendly!
Each cottage is an individually designed eco friendly cottage (constructed 2007), with lots of space and home comforts to keep everyone happy. We offer every facility, but everything we do is aimed at helping to save the environment.
You can book more than one of our cottages at a time for a family or group holiday. In total, there is sleeping capacity for up to 20 people.
There is a laundry room on site with washing machine and tumble drier. Each cottage has its own pull out drier on the wall outside the cottage.
