Bad Frankie Bad Frankie, 141 Greeves St, Fitzroy VIC 3065, Australia

Bad Frankie is a Fitzroy bar named for the infamous Governor of Van Diemen’s Land, John Franklin, who outlawed small pot stills in the early 19th Century. Frankie would be turning in his grave to see the range of boutique Aussie spirits showcased behind the bar bearing his name. Drinks are best paired with the iconic Australian snack, the jaffle. The menu's offers everything from classic cheese to deconstructed lamington.

Bad Frankie is named after the infamous Governor of Van Diemen’s Land, John Franklin, who outlawed small pot stills in the early 19th Century. Unfortunately, this law was written into national law when the country was federated. It wasn’t until 150 years later when the ‘grandfather of Australian spirits’ Bill Lark overturned the law and had started to produce his own whisky. From Bill, the industry has expanded exponentially and continues to do so into a range of Australian spirits, whiskey, gin, vodka, liqueurs and so on.

Bad Frankie showcases the range of boutique Australian spirits from across the country and complements these spirits with the iconic Jaffle.

Although we understand the pressure on Governor John Franklin, we also can’t help but imagine the time we have lost in the industry. We have created a bar that we imagine would have existed during the early 20th century, showcasing the range of excellent produce from across the country, and we can’t help think, what a Bad Frankie.
