As the children of celebrity French chef Jacques Reymond, siblings Nathalie, Edouard and Antoine Reymond certainly have a lot to live up to with their South Yarra restaurant, Bistro Gitan. Named after the gypsy travellers of Europe, Bistro Gitan takes culinary cues from both France and Spain and unlike many of Jacques' restaurants; Gitan hasn't a degustation or fine-dining menu in sight. Instead, the menu features Euro comfort food and value-for-money rotating meal specials. This South Yarra restaurant has all the makings of a successful neighbourhood bistro.
Bistro Gitan celebrates a French, family-style of eating in which flexibility is key, aiming to create the experience of a dinner table just as it would be for a family in France. The relaxed atmosphere is suited to both those who are dining, or just visiting for a drink. The old Victorian building, large colourful posters and art-deco dark wooden furnishings add to the homey charm.
