BOD is a spacious accessible cliff top flat in Bournemouth overlooking the sea and the Purbecks. It has been specifically renovated with easy access in mind. All on one level with its own entrance and garden the flat is conveniently located just yards from the tarmac path that leads down to the local sandy Blue Flag beach.
The accommodation has 3 double bedrooms sleeping up to 6 people. The front bedroom has a profiling bed (with optional side rails) and a single bed. There is a large en-suite wetroom with Geberit wash and blow dry toilet and height adjustable Invacare shower/commode chair. The back bedroom has an electric double, each side working independently, which can be split and used as two 2' 6" singles if required. It has an en-suite wet room again large enough for wheelchair use. The middle bedroom is twin bedded and uses the toilet/shower across the hall.
The lounge is home to two riser/recliner chairs and a tilt-in-space chair. There is a large porch/sun lounge which has an area suitable for charging a buggy and the level garden which has a secluded seating/dining area also offers off road parking. All rooms have wide doors, lowered light switches and raised power points and the owners have tried to incorporate coloured accessories to aid guests with visual impairments.
Included in the cost of your holiday is the use of an accessible beach hut for part of your stay. The blue flag beach can be accessed by a tarmac path and a lift which is free for one carer with a wheelchair user. A Rolleez beach wheelchair which can be taken into shallow water is also available to loan from the beach office, a deposit is required but there is no fee.
The owners have gone to a great deal of effort to consider all accessibility issues they have even compiled their own accessible guides ‘BOD Bible - Accessibility Guide’, ‘Wheelchair Wanders’ and ‘Car Free Capers’ to help you make the most of facilities in the area. They have a vast list of accessibility equipment that is always available in the flat which includes: reading light, pick up reacher , lap trays, plate guards, large handled bendable cutlery, stainless steel medical dressing trolley, emergency alarm in front bedroom and front wet-room, digital monitoring device with the facility for 2 way conversation, suitcase ramps – 3ft and 7ft (located at beach hut), audio description and subtitles on all four televisions, magnifiers (hand held and hands free), large print books, large playing cards, Jumbo Yahtzee, audible/vibratory liquid level indicator, talking alarm clock, automatic sensor light and strobe lights on emergency alarms.
They also offer the following equipment to guests at no extra cost but these need to be requested in advance, Oxford Advance folding hoist, Rotastand Solo, Remploy lightweight car transit wheelchair, tilt-in-space reclining shower chair, pad disposal unit, travel cot, high chair, commode chair, vibrating fire alarm and alarm clock, height adjustable perching stool, height adjustable overbed table, lightweight tri walker, walking stick, frame bed cradle, armchair protectors, waterproof mattress protectors, duo turn-table (standing or seated transfer), revolving seat “cushion”, orthopaedic cushions, “V” shaped pillow/cushion, travel pillow and sleeping mask and CD player with tactile buttons (capable of playing DAISY disks) and selection of Talking Books.
