A not-so-hidden gem in Melbourne's premier waterside suburb, Eis Japanese offers diners a taste of refined Japanese cuisine that is refreshingly affordable and understated good. A eatery with a difference, the food here can be described as a fusion between Modern Australian and Japanese, with considerate plating and not a sushi-platter in site. To get the full experience, opt for the eight course degustation, with matched wines to experience a take on Japanese cuisine that you didn't think was possible.
In August 2001, the long-held dream of Chef Aoki was realised, his own restaurant in Bridport Street, Albert Park, named Eis (Eis is the phonetic alphabet of the word Ace). His passion for food and everyday life is displayed in his simple and elegant design of the menu. He believes that elegant and refined food is possible in Japanese cuisine, and this relies on a chefs training and creativity, technique, ingredient, freshness of produce and presentation on the plate.
The interior and re-branding of Eis is created by award-winning architect, Architects EAT, who was responsible for the design of Maedaya Bar which won the 2008 Interior Design Award for hospitality interior. They have use their signature black and white finish to make Eis becomes now fresh, airy, simple and chic.
With these as the forewords, Eis welcomes you to the next chapter of the restaurant in this re-launch in November 2008.
Awards: The Age Cheap Eats 2005-2008 & The Age Good Guide 2008.
