Escape to America without leaving the banks of Melbourne's St Kilda beach at the traditional Freddie Wimpoles, housed on the ground floor of the George Hotel . A rustic bar crafted with rich dark wood panels is dressed with hanging deer horns and a moose's head that watches over the space. Here you will find a laid-back atmosphere filled with glasses of craft beer and plates that look like they have come straight out of a New York deli. The George Hotel was first established in 1857 & purchased by Frederick Wimpole in 1873. Wimpole became Mayor of St. Kilda in 1886. An astute business man & avid beer lover. He became director of The Melbourne Co-operative Brewing Company based in Abbotsford in the late 1800s, which later became Carlton United Breweries.
