KRI KRI Greek Restaurant KRI KRI Greek Restaurant, 37-41 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia

Among a growing trend of restaurants opening at the top end of the city, Kri Kri holds its own as an established mezethopoleion, that's Greek tapas to you and me. Taking its name from krikri, a Cretan mountain goat, it is also the specialty dish of this eatery, served within a light and bright space with plenty of Greek hospitality.

Noted as being the first mezethopoleion in Australia that specialises in serving mezethes (small traditional dishes deigned for sharing with the other diners at your table) Kri Kri is a Greek restaurant that goes back to the roots of Greek cuisine. The Greeks are renowned for enjoying their tempting fare in relaxed and informal and surroundings and Kri Kri is no exception. A little piece of Crete at the start of Little Bourke Street, the walls are painted a bright Mycenaean yellow, and though the linens are white and not the blue check so common in Greek eateries, family photos in the downstairs dining area give it a real feeling of authenticity.

Kri Kri's specialty is mezethes, however an a la carte menu is also offered for those in need of something heartier. If choosing the mezethes option you can either select your own, take recommendations from staff, or choose from a variety of banquet options. Dishes arrive in a continuous stream to your table straight from the kitchen. Alternatively, go a la carte starting with an entrée of saganaki (pan fried kefalograviera cheese), followed by a main of Kri Kri goat (oven-baked goat with a lemon olive dressing). The wine list has a good selection of Greek offerings among the Australian offerings.

Welcome to Kri Kri and the unique experience of Greek mezethes-style dining.  Sharing mezethes or ‘small plates’ is an old and established custom in Greece.  There is no entrée or main course as such, instead, one chooses from the wide variety of dishes on offer.  Each dish has its own individual character. You can order old favourites, invent your own combination of flavours and textures, or ask your waiter to help devise a menu according to your taste and mood.  The dishes will come out as they are cooked, with enough time for you to savour each and every one, and anticipate the next.  So sit back, let the rembetika music stir your soul and get ready for a taste of Greece.  Kali Orexi!
