Shark Fin Keysborough is the largest restaurant in the Shark Fin Group's chain of Chinese eateries. It's a big, bustling place serving excellent seafood and all the usual Chinese favourites. The best dishes here are the best dishes in any good Chinese restaurant - dumplings, duck and seafood. Get in early for yum cha Sundays - word has spread about the quality of the little morsels coming out of the kitchen.
If we're honest, we have to admit that a site in suburban Keysborough opposite a shopping centre would not be the first place we'd look for a good meal. At least, that would be the case were it not for the Shark Fin. The group made its reputation with two restaurants in Melbourne's CBD Chinatown, before swinging open the third. It's the largest restaurant in the group, and the only one to have parking. The huge dining room has a sense of ceremony in the decor, with high ceilings, marble-like pillars and chandeliers. Shark Fin attracts a huge range of guests of all ages and backgrounds, and the food has proven good enough to bring people from a fair range of nearby suburbs.
The menu is extensive and supplemented by seasonal specials and banquet menus. The best dishes here are the best dishes in any good Chinese restaurant - dumplings, duck and seafood. We particularly liked the steamed dim sims with minced prawn meat and the roast squab with spicy salt. The vegetable dishes are to be taken seriously, especially the bok choy with black mushrooms. There's a delicious selection of beef dishes for those who dont opt for a dish from the tank. Prices are generally low here, although there's mud crab and crayfish if you want to lash out.
