Good Food Guide 2016 - Fitzroy's Sir Charles is a 60-seat cafe, named after the former Governor of Victoria, Sir Charles Augustus Fitzroy and it's home to award-winning Asian-inspired cuisine. Your regular breakfast eggs are lifted with a side of miso and onion roti and lunch could be anything from a Korean fried chicken burger to a steak sandwich. Dinner sees the kitchen squarely in the southeast Asian camp, with all dishes designed to share.
Sir Charles is the latest cafe to grace Johnston Street in Fitzroy. And grace it has in abundance. The space is light and spacious, with a stunning modern decor of stone, bleached wood, aqua stripes, and copper accents. Whether you’re after breakfast or dinner, Sir Charles is open for all, with a modern Asian influenced menu. It’s a hard choice between the Warm Wagyu Beef Salad with kimchi, sweet tamarind and puffed grains, or the Pan Fried Duck Breast with pickled watermelon and lychee salad. Andy Smith as front of house and Tyler Preston in the kitchen are running the show, and with project instigators Dave Makin and Zoe Delany from Axil Coffee Roasters, you’re sure to find a great cup of coffee too.
