Welcome to the Ulbster Arms Hotel, situated in the village of Halkirk, on the banks of the river Thurso and sturdily built of Caithness stone, this one time Sinclair family home has been a comfortable retreat for shooting, fishing, corporate and holiday guests for over 150 years.
Our hotel offers all of the usual modern day facilities, bedrooms with direct dial telephones and free wi-fi connectivity, as well as spacious working areas for those who just cannot get away from it all.
‘Our hotel has access to 26 miles of premium salmon fishing which is fished by a maximum of 24 rods at any one time with some beats over 3 miles long, this ensures a peaceful and beautiful salmon fishing experience. we are able to provide expert knowledge from Ghillies who can help with first time aspiring fly fishers or just be on hand to offer local advice.
Following our recent renovations and refurbishments, we have now created 13 rooms at the hotel. Each has all of the modern day comforts, including full ensuite bath or shower rooms, tea & coffee making facilities, remote controlled televisions, wi-fi internet connectivity, etc.
All of our rooms have been transformed into “deluxe” bedrooms and all have been given the individual personal touch.
Large traditional sash windows bring a light, airy feel, framing the panoramic open views of the historic village and tree lined Thurso River. We also have 8 chalets situated within the car park, to the rear of the hotel and these are particularly popular for guests who wish to bring their dogs.

The Lodge has three bedrooms, all of which have en-suite shower rooms, flat screen TVs, High speed free WIFI, Tea & Coffee making facilities. All of the bedrooms are decorated in-keeping with the area, thoughtful touches and attention to detail. A real haven to relax and unwind in.
This luxury accommodation also has a communal lounge, Sky Television of which is the perfect place to relax in front of the lodge wood burning stove.
