The Cullen, an art hotel in Prahran, is home to the elegant dining room known as The Gramercy Bistro. Inspired by New-York's Gramercy Hotel, the Andrew Walter-designed space offers an American-inspired menu featuring Rueben sandwiches, burgers, ribs and steak. There's a bit of a deli feel inside, with glass cases of salamis, cheeses and pickles. The Bistro also features prized artworks from Armadale's Metro Gallery.

Whoever first said ‘life is uncertain, eat dessert first,’ was un-donutably inspired by the pastry cabinet at Gramercy Coffee. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the CBD in the Wintergarden, the scent of Gramercy’s freshly baked goodies entices people in from the busy Edward Street outside – and could definitely persuade you to put a hold on lunch.

Triple layer chocolate mud cake with salted caramel butter cream and fresh strawberries is usually enough to tempt us away from our leftovers but for you it might be crème brûlée, PB&J or Boston cream stuffed donuts. No? How about a double layer strawberry and cream meringue cake? If your willpower actually has some will, maybe try a healthier treat like the coconut and pear crumble, with blueberries, pear, vanilla and yoghurt.

Whether finding respite on a busy weekday morning, or after a retail therapy session, you can rest easy knowing that all ingredients in their house made goodies are sourced locally. High quality produce from Brisbane markets, meat from Meat at Billy’s in Ashgrove, eggs from The Egg Man and Jersey milk from Cooloola Milk in the Mary Valley supplement Gramercy’s ethos: if it’s not local, don’t serve it.

As well as plenty of sweets, Gramercy serves up house made relishes, sauces and jams atop dishes on its locally sourced menu. Think Italian vegetable and lentil soups of zucchini, tomato and basil, served with shaved pecorino and fresh basil and a side of buttered sourdough toast, or a beef hot dog, with sauerkraut, caramelised onion, cheddar and mustard on a fresh bun. Wipe that drool from your face – there’s more.

Gramercy is the only venue in Queensland where you can sip an automated pour over coffee. The gentlest ways to brew coffee, this nuanced, refined and well-rounded drink is the smoothest in Queensland. And a constantly shifting menu of both quality Australian and international roasters will keep your taste buds inspired!

So sit yourself down at Gramercy, order your cookies ‘n’ cream cupcake, a Reuben Hills latte, THEN your avo on toast, watch the silly shoppers walking by, and revel in the fact that you’re in the foodie loop. And it tastes good.
