Braemar on Parliament Street Braemar on Parliament Street, 7 Parliament St, Auckland, 1010, New Zealand

Braemar on Parliment Street is the only late Victorian townhouse in the Auckland Central Business District still used as a residence. Built in 1901, it has been lovingly restored but with the addition of up to the minute technology for comfort and convenience.

All our guest rooms are upstairs on the 1st floor and are tastefully furnished with a mixture of the old and new. The Batten Suite, with ensuite bathroom and private tv lounge, and the Victorian room with an insuite bath and toilet, both have open fireplaces. Our Norman and Jenny rooms share a bathroom and are often booked as one unit. All our bathrooms have restored old style large clawfoot baths which are superb for relaxation and pampering. All toiletries are complimentary and we endeavour to offer the finest New Zealand made products available.

The ground floor (street level at the front) has a front parlour and a large lounge, both available for your relaxation. Wireless broadband is available throughout the house, but if you want to go online and didn’t bring your own laptop, you can go wireless with ours. The dining-room where you come for breakfast is located on the lower ground floor.

Rooms

Batten Suite

Experience the prestige privacy of a queen bedroom with full ensuite facilities and a private tv lounge. Ideal for a small group, guests who have guests and small families.

Prestige rooms at the front of the house with queen size bed, luxury ensuite and a private lounge that can be converted into a bedroom.

The Batten suite is named after Fred Batten, the father of New Zealand’s own flying ace, Jean Batten. Fred Batten lived here for 40 years when the house was in apartments and part of the Courtville apartment complex.

Jenny’s Room

This Bedroom shares a fully restored bathroom with large, shower, heat lamps and relaxed comfort. A compact room, suitable for the business traveller or those with fewer suitcases.

The Jenny room is named after a dear friend who lived with us during our house renovation. Her upbeat positive attitude in the face of serious personal adversity was truly inspirational.

Norman’s Room

Norman’s room is tastefully furnished with a Queen size bed and beautiful Persian rug in an elegant setting. Norman’s room is named after a friend who had worked and toured internationally with a English famous rock band for many years. He was fun, good company and a great racontuer and cook so we named “his” room after him.

The Norman and Jenny rooms share the fully restored bathroom with its walk-in shower, cast iron bath, heat lamps and plenty of soft towels.

The Victorian Room

Especially suited for romantic stays, this is a beautiful room with richly woven rugs and gilded mirrors.

We called it the Victorian room to acknowledge that it was the master bedroom for the Victorian family who lived here when the house was first built.
