In a countryside setting near the A1, this traditional hotel and pub is 0.2 miles from Bowes and Lookout Lakes, 1.8 miles from the Bowes Incline Railway Museum (from which the hotel takes its name) and 3.6 miles from the Angel of the North statue.
Airy, subdued rooms come with en suite bathrooms, satellite TV, and tea and coffeemaking facilities. Family rooms are available.
There's free off-street parking, and Wi-Fi access is available. The cosy restaurant and bar has dark-wood panelling and exposed beams, and serves an updated pub menu and cask ales.
The Hotel maintains the 18 en-suite rooms and warm, friendly welcome which have made it extremely popular with visitors to the region.
However, it is as an eating place that visitors will see the greatest changes to the Hotel. The property has been carefully redesigned to accommodate over 100 diners and yet maintain a relaxed atmosphere.
The new design acknowledges the importance of the Bowes Incline in regional industrial history and uses it to produce an interesting, intimate and smoke-free setting in which you can enjoy dishes from a menu created to be both appealing and tempting.
Our Full Menu and Daily Specials is served: Monday to Saturday 12.00-21.30 and Sundays 12.00-9.00.
Monday to Saturday there is also Lighter Lunch Menu available between 12.00-17.00
Accommodation
No expense has been spared on new build, renovation and refurbishment of the 18 bedrooms which opened for booking as recently as September 2013.
The furnishings are tasteful but not too dominant, and they are designed to combine comfort with efficiency.
We have a mixture of Single, Twin, Double and Family Rooms, and, of course a suitably and sensitively equipped Room for those with a disabilities. All rooms are en-suite, with TV (Freeview), Telephone and Coffee and Tea-making facilities.
FOOD & DRINK
Our Long Bar is fully stocked to meet the needs of the most discerning of customers. A wide range of Cask Ales and Lagers, Wines, Spirits and Bottled Drinks are available. Our local regular customers mingle with visitors and resident guests in a warm and friendly atmosphere. To find a real Pub atmosphere within an Hotel is rare. We think it is essential !
Our comprehensive and appetising Menu is available all day and every day. Should you only need a Light Bite, an attractive range of items is available from 12 noon until 5 p.m.
Our a-la-carte Menu is impressive, and is a major show-piece of the Hotel. From Fresh Mussels through to a relishing Beef and Ale Pie or a Lamb Shank, all tastes ( and capacities ! ) are catered for. Oh, and don’t forget, we have a wide vegetarian range on offer.
In the Bowes Incline you will be eating quality Restaurant- standard food in an Hotel setting. In addition, because of the spacious nature of our dining area with seating for over 100 guests, you do not need to book.
