Introduction / Description
Lower Knapp Farm used to be a working farm, and even now it is not hard to imagine the hustle and bustle of the farmhands and livestock rushing back and forth. Today, the Victorian buildings have been put to another use – 16 beautiful holiday cottages and apartments to be enjoyed by groups, couples and families. Set amongst the rolling hills and lush countryside of East Devon, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing country break.
Lower Knapp Farm includes 14 cottages which have been converted from the original farm buildings. Each sleeps between two and six people, and are fully furnished to make your stay as comfortable as possible with well-equipped kitchens and open plan layouts. Despite the renovations, the Victorian buildings still retain their original rural charm, featuring stone facades and terraced designs that blend perfectly into the lush scenery. Each cottage is tastefully decorated to be sympathetic to its farming history and most have access to a patio for sitting outside and enjoying the fresh country air. Five of the cottages are also dog friendly, while another has been adapted for accompanied wheelchair users so that everyone can feel welcome and comfortable.
In addition to the cottages, there are two luxury holiday apartments inside the main farmhouse building. With one double and one twin bedroom, as well as a sofa bed, they’re ideal for families looking to enjoy a country break. The apartments’ open plan design makes great use of the space, creating a cosy retreat to relax in after a long day exploring. With fully equipped kitchens and a private patio to enjoy, they’re the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area.
Beyond the accommodation, Lower Knapp Farm has a range of activities to keep the whole family busy. For sunny days, there is a 10 x 4 metre indoor heated pool with adjacent sauna and conservatory and a small children’s play area. Should the Great British weather turn against you, guests are encouraged to use the private clubhouse and games room, where they can indulge in a game of table football, pool, table tennis and bar billiards. Guests can also use the free internet and Wi-Fi throughout their stay.
Of course, the real draw of the area can be found beyond the walls of the property, in the beautiful countryside of East Devon. Fortunately, there are plenty of places to explore within easy reach of Lower Knapp Farm. The picturesque town of Sidbury is just two miles away. With thatched cottages and a charming village pub, it’s a perfect example of country charm and a great place to stock up with food and drink for your stay. Sidmouth, a pretty coastal town overlooking Lyme Bay, is also only five miles away and ideal for a day at the seaside. Another place worth a visit is Honiton. This lively town is famous for its lace and pottery. It is also a haven for antique hunters, especially those with an interest in antiquarian books.
Beyond these nearby towns, there’s no shortage of things to do; explore Exeter’s 11th Century Cathedral, try some extreme sports, or enjoy a Deer Park safari at Powderham Castle. There are also plenty of nearby walks for all abilities, which will take you through a kaleidoscope of pretty villages, wild meadows and unspoiled country paths.
However you decide to spend your days, you can relax knowing that you have a cosy home from home to return to. Lower Knapp Farm is a picture-perfect place for your next rural break, providing the perfect mix of rural charm and luxury living under one roof.
