Accessible Rooms & Bathrooms / Accessibility

A quirky muddle of 28 individually-designed rooms – but that’s exactly how it is supposed to be. There are country-house strands that run through each space (art depicting flora, lovely wooden floors, fireplaces), combining with kitsch touches such as salmon lampshades and rotary dial telephones. You’re lucky the location is so beautiful, otherwise you might linger all day in supremely comfortable Vispring beds (some are four-poster) decked with plush cushions. There’s no room service but you’ll find a ‘larder’ of snacks, including chocolate, Chase spirits and cured meat. Lovely bathrooms feature large showers and pastel-coloured tiles; 14 rooms have freestanding tubs. Two thatched dovecotes near the kitchen garden, The Bothy and the two-story Lookout, are romantic hideaways; in the grounds are Harry’s Hut and The Pig Hut for a fun glamping experience.

There is one adapted room, located on the ground floor.

Public Areas / Dining

There’s nothing too extravagant about the menu served in the Victorian-style conservatory restaurant; it’s all about exceptional sourcing – expect almost everything to have been sourced within a 25-mile radius – and letting strong, simply flavours shine through. Gone are the half-a-head Bath chaps I once accidentally ordered; for pork cravings you could find a gammon joint steeped in parsley sauce or a ‘tomahawk’ chop with seasonal greens. Steak, local game, and salads from the walled garden all delight. Seafood features more heavily in the menu than at the other Pigs (understandable given the coastal location). Booking is absolutely essential for dinner at all times of year. During warmer months flatbreads are served to the terrace from a wood-fired oven. Cosiness abounds in the bar, where Chesterfield-style sofa beckon for nibbles – or ‘piggy bits’, such as crispy brawn and chipolatas – paired with cocktails strong on Dorset’s Conker gin.

The plant-filled conservatory is also the space for breakfast, where you’ll find a table spread with granola, yogurt, jams, energy bars, fruit, ham, cheese and more (local and homemade where possible, of course). The banana bread is particularly good. As for hot dishes, the Full Pig Out (a full English) remains the popular choice.
