Morland House is a large manor house in Cumbria’s Eden Valley on the edge of the Lakes, sleeping 18 adults in 9 bedrooms. It is a perfect place for large gatherings of family and friends for special occasions. It is available for weekly lets or short breaks (weekends or mid-week).
Across the hall is the mainly panelled Dining Room which can seat 18 at one splendid mahogany table. An oak refectory table can be used as a sidetable for carving, and an alcove contains a smaller table seating up to 6, perhaps for children. The walls are a deep red, and table lamps and an open fire make a warm welcoming room for a special dinner.
The Back Hall leads to several more rooms. The large white-painted Kitchen contains new modern kitchen units including a tall fridge, dishwasher, two side-by-side Bosch ovens and hobs and a 1½ sink. A superb oak dresser and grandfather clock stand guard over a round oak dining table, ideal for informal breakfasts and teas. The large fireplace contains a wood-burning stove which can be used to gather round. We can provide up to 3 high chairs as necessary. The Back Kitchen contains a second dishwasher, a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a second fridge, and a tall freezer. Steps lead down to the back door.
Bedrooms
The house has eight double bedrooms (three of which can be configured as twins, and one of which can be configured as a triple), and a former dressing room (with independent entrance) with a single bed. This means that it can sleep 18 adults. On top of that, we can provide up to two cots, you are welcome to bring more, and if you love the house but still can't seem to squeeze your whole party in, there's a double sofa bed in the Snug which might solve your problem.
There are six bathrooms and shower rooms: three are exclusively en-suite, two bedrooms share a bathroom, and the final three bedrooms share a bathroom and a shower room between them. Reflecting the incremental development of the house itself, each has its own character. Some rooms feature flexible bed configurations; equal comfort is guaranteed in any configuration.
The bedrooms are named after prominent members of the Markham family and contain pictures, possessions and information about each. The first four bedrooms open off the Front Landing which features the Landing Library, mainly classic novels and history books. The second four bedrooms open off the Back Landing, which contains display cases of Indian birds dating from the 1840s.
