Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a state park of Arizona, United States, on the Verde River in an area known as the Verde River Greenway.
There are more than 100 large RV sites available. For after-hours arrivals, vacant sites may be occupied on a night-by-night basis only. Most of the pull-through sites can accommodate 40-foot motor homes and truck and trailer rigs up to 65 feet and include potable water and 30/50-amp service. Generators are prohibited.
All campground loops include modern, ADA accessible restroom facilities providing hot water and showers and are free to registered campers. There is a stay limit of 14 nights in a 30-day period. The park is often sold out in the spring and fall. It's a good idea to reserve early or check availability online or by phone a few days in advance.
Quail Loop: 43 campsites, including one ADA accessible site.
Red-Tail Loop: 36 campsites, including one ADA accessible site.
Cooper’s Hawk Loop: 27 campsites, including two ADA accessible sites.
Blackhawk Loop: 17 non-electric campsites, including one ADA accessible site, reserved exclusively for tents. RVs, including campers and vans, are not permitted. The loop is adjacent to modern restroom facilities providing hot water and showers.
Camping Cabins
Everyone has a different idea of adventure, but most of us feel the same way about relaxing after a long, exciting day. We've made it easy for you to get your rest and recharge in our beautifully rustic log cabins. Did you bike the Lime Kiln Trail? Maybe you've been out photographing the diverse birds and animals of the park all day. Did you fish the lagoons then hike down the Verde River Greenway to find more secluded spots? You're surrounded by adventure potential here...Bring the mindset, we'll supply the peace of mind with our comfortable air-conditioned cabins.
Camping Cabin Loop: 8 one-room log camping cabins are available at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The cabin circle is tucked away from the other campgrounds for an ideal getaway for a weekend — or a week.
The cabins are variably furnished with a full-size bed, a bunk bed, table and chairs, dresser-drawer, ceiling fan with overhead light, and electricity. Cabins now have heating and cooling!
Campers must supply their own linens. Each cabin also has a barbecue and picnic table outside, plus a small individual fire ring. Family-style shower facilities are only a short walk from all of the cabins. There is an electrified ramada with barbecues that can be shared by cabin guests. RVs are not permitted in cabin areas.
Accessiblity
There’s is a wide doorway and adequate wheelchair clearance inside the cabin. It’s furnished with a set of bunk beds and a double bed, a chest of drawers, a table and four chairs. The bunk bed is 17 inches high, while the double bed is 23 inches high; and they both offer wheelchair access on one side. Additionally, the chairs can be easily stowed on hooks when not in use, which frees up more floor space. The cabin also has electricity, overhead lights and an air conditioner.
Outside there’s a picnic table on a level grassy area next to the cabin. There is also a fire grill near the table, and a bench on the porch. None of the furniture can be removed from the cabin, so it’s a good idea to bring along some lawn chairs for additional outdoor seating.
There are three other accessible cabins, including cabin 2 (Bobcat), cabin 5 (Eagle) and cabin 8 (Hawk). They all have the same configuration as cabin 1, but cabin 5 offers the most privacy.
The bathhouse is located a short walk away along the paved road. The large family restroom includes a roll-in shower with a fold-down shower bench and grab bars. The shower is large, and the bench is four-feet from the shower faucet, so this setup is best for someone who has their own shower chair or has an assistant. There’s no hand-held showerhead, and as a water conservation measure, a one-to-two minute water spurt is released when the shower knob is pressed. It can be pressed with a fist, and although it seems inconvenient, at least it’s free. There is also a toilet with grab bars on the right and back walls (as seated), and a roll-under sink in the bathroom.
