Accessible Rooms & Bathrooms / Accessibility
As your Kansas City lodging of choice, Southmoreland on the Plaza – An Urban Inn, offers 12 guestroom accommodations plus the 2 Carriage House Suites with an enticing selection of decor and amenities. Each room has a maximum occupancy of 2 guests. King and queen beds are available with styles ranging from four-poster mahogany, original mission, natural timber, iron, Eastlake, Shaker, to Chippendale. Rooms are named after notable Kansas-Citians and fashioned to reflect their personal history or the era in which they lived.
The accessible August Meyer room, which is located on the first floor, boasts wide doorways, good pathway access and wood floors. The king-sized bed is 28-inches high, with adequate wheelchair clearance on one side. Other access features include a lowered closet rod and a wheelchair-height full-length mirror.
The spacious bathroom is outfitted with a roll-under sink, grab bars on the back and left toilet walls (as seated), and a two-person Jacuzzi tub with a hand-held showerhead. There are grab bars around the tub, which has a built in shower seat in the far corner. A portable shower bench is also included, but because of the size and shape of the tub, most folks will require some transfer assistance.
All of the first-floor public rooms feature level access, with the exception of the solarium, which can be accessed by a portable ramp. Breakfast is generally served in the Harvest Dining Room, which is just around the corner from the August Meyer room. Alternatively, guests can enjoy breakfast on the veranda, which can be also accessed by a portable ramp.
And for a romantic dinner, head over to nearby Country Club Plaza, where you’ll find a wide selection of dining options. Save some time to enjoy the Spanish architecture and stroll past the lighted J.C Nichols fountain, before heading back to the inn for coffee and desert. It’s a great way to top off the evening.
