Unwind and forget your troubles at our small, family run hotel. Built in the 17th Century, it is one of the 7th oldest licenced Inns in Scotland and historically a destination that families have aspired to visit for well over 100 years. Perched on the southern-most tip of Arran with panoramic views to die for, the hotel is located right on the seafront, the beach literally stone’s throw away. Overlooking the Firth of Clyde we are right in the middle of a unique eco-system with a plethora of wildlife. We have seals basking daily on the rock jetties off-shore, otters feeding and playing on the rocks and gannets diving non-stop through the day. We are also fortunate to have occasional basking sharks and dolphins visiting in the summer months and an array of birds-of-prey including eagles, peregrines, buzzards and more…
Pladda Island sits directly across the sound with its recognisable lighthouse and ever changing silhouette playing host to a large colony of seagulls and gannets. And of course the famous Ailsa Craig, ‘Paddy’s Milestone’, a bird sanctuary now but is renowned for its granite which is still used for curling stones today.
The interior is fully refurbished, still maintaining some the quaint characteristics of old, while the tasteful addition of extended bistro and lounge area with floor to ceiling windows allow residents and diners to gaze for miles over a cup of tea, breakfast or an evening meal.

We have in-room tea & coffee making facilities and our rooms are fitted with flat screen TV’s… if the weather should turn. Most have stunning south-facing sea views, please do request on booking.
Our Deluxe suites are modern and fresh, sleeping up to four people. Our 4 upper floor suites have balconies and our 3 ground floor suites have small covered patios with private doors leading to the round to hotel gardens. All of our suites are en-suite with bath & shower with complimentary Arran Aromatics® toiletries. Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided. Under floor heating keeps your ‘tootsies’ warm in the Arran winter and a digital 32” flat screen mounted in separate seating area if the weather should turn or so as not to miss your favourite show while on holiday. All upper suites have a beautiful south westerly view towards Bennan Head, Sanda and Northern Ireland. Sit and watch the sun setting dramatically behind the hills with a glass of wine and a loved one. There is truly no place like it.
We have full wheelchair access throughout the ground floor, front door parking and a dedicated ground floor disabled access suite, with tiled floors for easy wheelchair access and wet room en-suite with grab bars & shower seat for the mobility impaired.
The Kildonan is a dog friendly hotel so forget the kennel or dog sitter and ‘fetch’ them along to enjoy the freedom of our quiet beach on our doorstep or take them with you on the many walks and hikes around Arran.

Read All ReviewsWonderful beachfront location with fabulous views from every room. The wheelchair accessible room is located on ground floor, due to rug over tiles I can’t move easily. There is a disabled room with a double and single bed with sitting area, flat bed shower with fold down seat. Easy wheelchair access for bar, restaurant, dinning room & all public areas. Toilets are fully accessible. They also provide separate parking or drop-off point for the disabled users. All in all I had an amazing break in the middle of Winter with fantastic hosts I would highly recommend.
