The Cairnbaan Hotel was built in the latter part of the 18th century as a coaching inn to serve fishermen and puffers trading on the Crinan Canal.
The Cairnbaan Hotel is situated at Lock 5, approximately halfway along the 9 mile-long Crinan Canal.
It can be reached from the north (Inveraray) on the A83 or the A816 (Oban), or from the Cowal peninsula on the Tarbert - Portavadie ferry.
The Cairnbaan Hotel was built in 1801 to coincide with the opening of the Crinan Canal, which is known as Scotland’s most beautiful short cut. For over two hundred years this gem of a hotel has serviced the needs of people travelling up and down the canal as well as visitors to Mid-Argyll from all over the world.
For the last ten years the hotel has been run by Darren and Christine Dobson, who have helped to maintain and enhance its reputation as one of Argyll’s finest and friendliest venues.
Rooms:
Cairnbaan has twelve lovely and individual rooms, which are equipped to a very high standard, plus a few little extras to help make your stay that bit more special.
Most of the straightforward country-style rooms have en suite bathrooms and some have views of the canal.
Amenities
Breakfast is available for an additional charge and there's a lounge bar and restaurant serving pub food and local seafood.

Read All ReviewsI had a lovely weekend stay in this hotel. The disabled room was very comfortable and safe. The staff are friendly and helpful also the food is excellent. The bathrooms have a bath and an electric shower over the bath not a separate cubicle. There are very many positives about this hotel and it was one of the most relaxing stays.
