The scenery of the borders and the countryside surrounding West Linton makes it a perfect center for center for oudoor activity whether it’s a scenic walk or a more challenging day of rambling.
Groups
The Gordon Arms is a welcome stop for lunch as part of a rambling afternoon or for a refreshment after a days fishing or golf. We can accommodate large and small groups in our bar, restaurant or our “Sitooterie” which alone caters for up to 40 people. Just let us know in advance and we can provide you with the tasty lunch or well earned drink or dinner.
Touring the Borders
West Linton is situated in the old county of Peebleshire which is bordered north south east and west by Midlothian, Dunfriesshire, Selkirkshire and Lanarkshire. Our location and proximity to towns like Biggar and Peebles means that the Gordon Arms is a great base from which to explore the scenic beauty and history of the Borders. After seeing the local sights our tasty, homemade food and comfortable rooms are the perfect way to end the day.
Fishing
The River Tweed and its tributaries are internationally famous for salmon fishing on the River Tweed itself, but excellent sea trout and rainbow trout and the wilder brown trout are also to be found in its tributaries and lochs in the local area.
Golf
The borders has some of Scotland’s best golf clubs and West Linton has two 18 hole golf courses. The West Linton Golf Course founded in 1890 is a moorland course above West Linton and Rutherford Castle Golf Club, between Carlops and West Linton on the A702, is a new parkland course.
Pony trekking in the Scottish Borders
West Linton has a number of Riding Centres on its doorstep which cater for both novice and experienced riders.
Cycling – mountain biking and touring in the Pentlands
There are a selection of cycle routes available from a basic 7 mile circuit to a challenging marathon length run. In the last few years the Forestry Commission has been building many new all weather mountain bike paths throughout the local forests. Some of these tracks are amongst the best single-track routes you will find anywhere.
Walking
The West Linton Area Tourist Group have produced a number of freely available leaflets on walks around West Linton. The village has a number of hidden treasures and you will find the literature very informative.There are walks to suit everybody from the experienced hillwalker to those who prefer a casual stroll.
Family activities and kids days out
The Borders and West Linton offer lots of activities suitable for families and children. The Pentlands Activity Camps (PAC), based in West Linton offers holiday adventure and day care for children aged 7 upwards in a wonderful activity camp setting only 5 minutes from The Gordon Arms Hotel.
