The Duke of Kent is over 40 years old and the official clubhouse of the Toronto Scottish Rugby Football Club. It is an iconic symbol of Victorian British pubs and guests immediately feel transported to another place and time. The friendly, attentive staff at the Kent are eager to make you feel at home, welcoming regulars and first timers with the same warm hospitality. Located on Yonge, steps north of Eglinton, the Kent is a small, cozy retreat for neighbourhood residents and lunch customers from the nearby shopping and business districts. The Original Pub is downstairs and the upstairs dining room and bar are perfect for private parties. The Kent’s menu is carefully designed to fit the customers’ wishes and makes this Duke a popular weekend destination.
the almost perfect accessible pub in north Toronto if it weren’t for the unnecessary two door 90 degree entrance. It makes this blog, however, due to the spacious indoor space and huge accessible private bathroom.
So, the front entrance doorways measure at 29 inches wide with little room to fit more then a manual wheelchair. Once inside there are private booths lining the right wall with stairs, but there is an unobstructed path throughout the whole bar that leads to a very clean, accessible bathroom- 72×72 inches with a 35 inch door. No ramps or level changes within space.
Something to note would be that the emergency exits, although easily found, are all accessed by 3 steps. There is also a level patio outside, but very little space is left between tables and chairs and the side entrance from the patio to the restaurant is not accessible. You would need to enter in from the front entrance.
The restaurant can be accessed by subway at the Yonge & Eglinton station, or if driving, there is great underground parking off of Broadway with an elevator and ramp to the street.
