Italian food is best enjoyed with chatter and lots of hand waving. Haberfield restaurant Dolcissimo offers guests a buzzing ambience as well as authentic cuisine (and house-made gelato) courtesy of chef Ian Fortani. Dolcissimo has one of the most extensive Italian menus you will find in Sydney, ensuring that there is something for all tastes and ages. Primi, secondi and dolci. Located in the heart of Sydney’s ‘Little Italy’, Dolcissimo offers some of the best-loved Italian delicacies in a relaxed café-like atmosphere. Pizzas are served for lunch and dinner – the real ones, that is, with wafer thin crusts and a few choice toppings – but you’d do as well to pop in for breakfast or coffee and cake. The selection of sweets is extensive with everything from pastries and tarts to shortbreads, meringues and crumbles, all with a distinct Italian flavour, of course. The restaurant also makes big claims for its house-made gelato, which is available to eat in or take away in a cone. It can also be made into gelato cakes with a few days notice. So if you feel yourself flagging a little towards the end of the day head over to Dolcissimo for a tartufi washed down with a double-shot espresso. That should see you on your way nicely. Best Dish: Baked ricotta tart.
