When good fish and Manly beach combine you know you're onto a good thing. This is what makes Manly's funky, casual Fish Mongers restaurant such a successful seafood hangout. Enjoy freshly shucked oysters, tempura battered fish or grilled salmon which all should be accompanied by the hand cut chips.
Combine a casual eatery with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating, a delightful, constantly changing (and surprising) seafood menu and a spot near Sydney's popular Manly beach and you can pretty much guarantee success. Fish Mongers in Manly has the added advantage of being the third restaurant in a successful beachside seafood franchise which started in Byron Bay and has since been embraced with arms (and mouths) wide open in Bondi. Fish Mongers Manly has a casual ambience which floats with the sea air across its outdoor tables, chairs and umbrellas and right into its little indoor space where it mixes with the smell of fresh, simmering seafood.
Part of the magic at Mongers (as it's known to anyone in the know) is that it is not just your average fish and chips joint. When you look at the menu your choices will not be limited to battered fish and variously crumbed and deep-fried seafood. Sidling up to tempura-battered fish, house-crumbed calamari and tempura prawns are favourites like healthy grilled fish and salad, barbecued octopus with rice, mouth-watering salt and pepper prawns and freshly-shucked oysters. These Mongers staples are joined by interesting (and often surprising) daily specials like teriyaki salmon and ginger-spiced barramundi. Where Fish Mongers in Manly is also different is that it is currently in the process of getting licensed which means that in the not-too-distant future you'll be able to pair your fish cocktail with an alcoholic one. At the moment you're free to bring down your favourite bottle of wine and tuck into some mighty fine seafood with the sea breeze for company.
