Housed in the ever booming food district of Surry Hills, is the Malaysian-inspired cafe Rumah. Walk into a realm of minimal timber finishings, tables with simple vases with fresh blooms of colour and a lofty space that comes to life in the morning sun. Expect items like roti, kaya on toast and delicate soft boiled eggs on the side. A warm and simplistic space to enjoy a brew of java coffee whilst reading your favourite magazine Our menu is inspired from places close to our hearts. Whether from the aromas emanating from our grandmother's kitchen in Segamat, Malaysia, or from our formative years spent in Singapore or even from the times we were away from home embracing new cultures and cuisines. We spent our early years watching our grandmother and later on, our mother, prepare traditional Hakka & Nonya dishes, wrap a gazillion rice dumplings one by one, steam nonya kuehs for hours and of course, stirring our family favorite kaya by hand.
