One of three Toby's outlets, this one in Chippendale is a cafe, tea emporium and roastery in one. The sound philosophy of quality and sustainability, plus great coffee (all baristas are trained at the Toby's barista school) make this a cafe worth returning to. While this place is a bit of a magnet for students, it also shelters an assortment of cool young locals, which adds up to a comfortable, buzzing atmosphere. It’s a go-to when lusting after coffee paraphernalia, like Hario grinders or the iconic Otto espresso machine, but most people here are after a more immediate caffeine hit and some sustenance. Seasonal menu specials are fresh and familiar; the beef and lamb pies are homely in the best sense of the word, especially when accompanied by smooth mashed potato.
